Moody Juicer
An interactive juicer designed for kids
The Moody Juicer is an interactive juicing machine designed to make the activity of juicing playful and engaging, especially for children. By incorporating human-like moods—happy, sad, lazy, and hungry—it creates a unique user experience where users must interact with the juicer to 'convince' it to make juice. This project explores emotional interaction design and its potential to make everyday tasks more enjoyable.

The Challenge
Transform the mundane activity of juicing into a playful experience that encourages kids to drink more juice.
Design an intuitive interface that bridges the gap between the conceptual model of the designer and users' expectations.

Emotional Design
Create a juicer that mimics human-like moods to engage users emotionally.

Playfull
Incorporate playful animations, sound design, and physical affordances to enhance user experience.

User Testing
Use feedback from user testing to refine the prototype for better usability and engagement.

Co-Design
Designed form collaborating with children.
Process Gallery:

Children found interactions with "surprised" mood unengaging, leading to its redesign as "hungry."
Users needed clearer signifiers for interaction points; visual cues like progress bars and eye animations were added in later iterations.
Sound design principles were applied to create tones that better matched the juicer's moods, reducing user confusion.
Research & Discovery
Impact
Increased engagement: Kids enjoyed interacting with the juicer repeatedly to "make it happy."
Improved usability: Adults found interactions more intuitive after adding clear visual and auditory feedback systems.
Emotional connection: The animal-like form and mood-based interactions created a unique emotional bond between users and the product.
